I am guessing that you will be attending at least one holiday party this year. I hope that you are…holiday parties are FUN! Of course you will want to bring a hostess gift, but what to bring? I’ve got you covered. I have five perfect hostess gift ideas for you that are personal and won’t break the bank. Ready?
First of all, not included in my list of five perfect hostess gifts (because it is a no-brainer)…alcohol. Is wine a nice hostess gift? Why, yes! Yes it is. What about champagne? Oh, why yes…definitely. What about liquor? If your hosts drink more than beer and wine, liquor is a great gift. Bring something special that they may not necessarily splurge for themselves, like a great bottle of tequila, gin or vodka. Last Christmas, our friend Steve gave us a great bottle of tequila that we would not have gotten for ourselves. We are still enjoying it!
On to the five perfect hostess gifts…
An orchid. Orchids are beautiful and last a while. I feel like they are a bit of a splurge, even though they are not necessarily that expensive. When you walk in the door, you can hand this beauty to your hostess and all she has to do is set it down somewhere. Done. I know it seems like a nice idea, but bringing cut flowers is a pain in the neck. It means stopping what you were doing, fetching a vase, filling it with water, cutting off the cellophane, trimming the stalks, etc. If you have a house full of…well, any amount of people, this is inconvenient at best. If you really want to bring cut flowers, bring them already arranged in a vase.
A fantastic cookbook. We recently had a drinks party at our house and a good friend of ours found THE PERFECT COOKBOOK for us! It has a corgi all throughout, and features cozy, home crafts and ideas, not to mention great recipes. She knows we love to cook, she knows I love to be somewhat crafty and have you ever seen a cookbook with a corgi featured throughout? If your hosts don’t actually cook, a book on a subject that interests them is a neat idea. A best-seller, a coffee table book…or even a collection of fun magazines tied up with a bow for them to enjoy the next day, once everything is all cleaned up.
Cheese (or other delectables for your hosts to enjoy on their own the next day). Any time we have a party, our friends Anais and Todd bring us some sort of special cheese. This year, it was the ever-stinky and so delicious époisses. Oh yum.
A nice bottle of olive oil. This year, we got a little duo sampler from a very special olive oil shop nearby, Olive Alchemy. We have salad nearly every night, so this is the perfect gift. Our friends have been telling us about this place, so it also means something that it came from here.
Along the lines of the olive oil idea…special salts. If your hosts love to eat or cook, anything in this category makes a great gift. This trio of special salt has made its way into several recipes. A great gift that we have enjoyed a lot but would not have gotten for ourselves.
Last but in no way least…See’s Candies. I love See’s. As far as I’m concerned, this is the best box of chocolates I’m going to get. And we rarely buy ourselves a box. If your host likes chocolate or candy, this is a sure bet. Love, love, love.
There you have it. Five perfect hostess gift ideas.
I don’t think any of us need a list of 27 hostess gifts, or even 12. This little list of five, though in no way comprehensive, outta do it. Don’t forget! Attach a tag, label or card to the gift so that your hostess knows who the gift is from. In the flurry of a party, I wouldn’t count on memory serving, especially if drinks are involved. Don’t make your hostess do more work…attach a little tag. Not going to any holiday parties? Throw your own!
